Associate or Full Professor

Description. The iSchool at the University of Maryland College Park invites highly qualified individuals to apply for a senior faculty position at the associate or full professor level in an environment in which colleagues offer and expect collaboration and excellence in all phases of academic life, and rich resources support research and teaching. We seek an individual with demonstrated leadership abilities, exemplary teaching expertise, and a dynamic and established research program that will complement our existing research strengths. We invite these outstanding individuals to join a faculty who engage in a broad scope of research, research, and service with the shared theme of information, technology, and people.

The ideal candidate will:

• Lead and conduct cutting edge, high impact research that shapes the information field;
• Assume a leadership role in the management and direction of College’s MLS program;
• Demonstrate exemplary and innovative teaching within one or more of our educational programs, primarily in the Master of Library Science program and secondarily within one or more of the iSchool’s other educational programs;
• Exhibit evidence of relevant and effective professional service; and
• Work comfortably within an interdisciplinary environment within the iSchool, University, and broader community.

 The iSchool enrolls approximately 500 students in four degree programs: a Ph.D. in Information Studies, a Master of Library Science (MLS), a Master of Information Management (MIM), and a Master of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). The iSchool enjoys a top 10 rating by US News & World Report and is known internationally for its vibrant program of interdisciplinary research in digital libraries; digital curation; archives and records management; information policy; information and diverse populations; information seeking and use in electronic environments; interface design; cloud computing; social media technologies; information access, retrieval, and use. Faculty members conduct individual and collaborative research with partners on campus and beyond.  Several hold appointments and other affiliations in Computer Science, Education, English, Institute for Advanced Computing Studies, Business, and Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation.

Areas of particular interest include:

• User information behavior and needs assessment
• Information and diverse populations
• Leadership in information organizations
• Information services, research and reference services in all formats
• Planning and evaluation of information services 

This is a 9-month tenured appointment, with opportunities for grant-funded summer research and/or summer teaching.  Salary and benefits are competitive based upon qualifications and experience. 

Qualifications. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area; demonstrated record of research accomplishments; demonstrated record of attracting outside funding; demonstrated record of effective leadership; and evidence of effective and innovative teaching.
