Collection Management Librarian

The EWU Libraries at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to begin in 2013. Position is available now.

This position is an 11-month tenure-track library faculty appointment to perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities in librarianship will focus on leadership and coordination for all collection activities, including policy development, planning, budget management, promotion, analysis, and asssessment. The CM Librarian develops and evaluates methods of resource selection and use assessment to support student learning in campus-based, online/hybrid, and distance education courses in a wide range of academic programs.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership, coordination, and support for the creation, assessment, and analysis of the Libraries' collection policies and activities
  • Develops qualitative and quantitative methods of assessing the value and effectiveness of the Libraries' collections in supporting academic programs and University strategic priorities
  • Organizes usage and other collection-related data, statistics, and analysis, providing centralized access to this information for use in decision-making
  • Communicates and consults with liaison librarians and department faculty throughout the University to develop collections supporting the range of disciplines and course delivery methods
  • Works with the Acquisitions/Electronic Resources Librarian and the Libraries' Budget Manager to allocate, manage, monitor, and analyze library allocations and funds
  • Participates and provides leadership in cooperative collection activities with state and regional consortia, particularly the Orbis Cascade Alliance and the Washington Cooperative Library Program
  • Promotes awareness of library collections and collection-related services to University sites, programs, students, and faculty
  • Actively engages with EWU faculty and students to identify and meet their information, teaching, research, and scholarly communication needs in an evolving information environment
  • Works collaboratively to integrate library resources in all formats into library discovery systems
  • Participates in library committees, governance and working groups

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS LIBRARIAN II:

- Holds a MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
- Meets qualifications for a Librarian II or Librarian III position and has the ability to meet tenure requirements as defined in Library Faculty Policies & Procedures, Part VII of the EWU Library Plan, available at http://www.ewu.edu/Library/About-Us/Library-Policies.xml or http://www.ewu.edu/Documents/Library/TheLibraryPlan%202000-2005.pdf
- Minimum 3-5 years' professional experience working in a complex library environment that focuses on discovery and delivery of online and tangible resources
- Professional experience in collection management and development in an academic library
- Knowledge of collection budgets, funding models, and electronic resource licensing
- Knowledge of new and emerging models of acquiring, collecting, disseminating, and providing access to scholarly information
- Adeptness at working in a technological and rapidly changing academic library environment
- Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication, organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and planning skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and collaborate effectively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and clients
- Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to serving diverse populations
- Strong commitment to student academic success

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS LIBRARIAN III:

Candidates considered for hiring in at the rank of Librarian III must meet the qualifications specified for the rank (see the Qualifications section), and the application of the candidate must have the support of the Dean of Libraries and the Library Faculty Personnel Committee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active participation in professional dialogue and contribution to academic librarianship, through participation in professional associations, publication, etc.
  • Demonstrated initiative in investigating new ideas and implementing change in collection development and management.
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in another subject specialty.
