Library Assistant Director

Champlain College seeks an enthusiastic, collegial and service-oriented Librarian to serve as an integral member of a team providing high quality academic library services in an innovative setting. This position will coordinate all aspects of the library’s innovative inquiry-based information literacy instruction program, including the expansion, promotion, and assessment of the Library’s instructional programs for on-campus and online students. This position is also responsible for integrating library resources and services into the Core curriculum, coordinating the Teaching Librarians group, overseeing the design and implementation of effective course-integrated information literacy and library instruction, and developing and carrying out meaningful outcomes assessment and reporting strategies for the Library’s instructional programs.

The Assistant Director will provide high-level support to the Library Director by contributing vision and planning toward meeting the library’s strategic mission and goals; prepare reports, summaries, and analyses; and assist in preparing budget materials. Participate in professional development activities; supervise a small team of Librarians; as well as exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. The finalist will oversee the day to day operations in Director’s absence; supervise the development and implementation of effective archival policies and procedures; and participate in reference, collection development, and other outreach services.

A masters degree in library science or related field from and ALA-accredited program required. Professional library experience is a must, preferably in higher education; supervisory experience, preferably including supervision of librarian staff. Must have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; strong service orientation; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff; ability to plan projects, report outcomes, and apply new technologies; expertise in experience with designing and managing information literacy instruction and assessment. The successful candidate will be well-informed about current practices, theory and issues; will show creativity, initiative, and flexibility; will have excellent writing skills; will be an articulate advocate for library initiatives, resources, and services; and will work collaboratively within the library, on campus, and in the profession.
