Catalog Librarian

The Washington University Libraries seek a service-oriented and innovative librarian to serve as Catalog Librarian (Electronic Resources & Other Non-Print Materials).

RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform original and adaptive cataloging in all formats, with an emphasis on electronic resources and other non-print materials, in a variety of subjects and languages according to national standards and using the Innovative Interfaces integrated library system and OCLC; resolve conflicts from MARCIVE authority reports and maintain bibliographic and authority records accordingly; coordinate the cataloging workflow in special areas of responsibility; participate in formulating cataloging policies and procedures; participate in library-wide activities and professional development activities with a focus on emerging technologies; assist with the training of library staff and students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required - Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school; Knowledge of national standards such as AACR2(rev), USMARC, LCSH, LC classification, MARCIVE, CONSER, PCC, and RDA, and other metadata schema such as Dublin Core and EAD; Familiarity with current trends in emerging technologies in libraries; Ability to work with foreign languages; Ability to analyze problems and determine solutions, to multi-task, and to work effectively in a collegial manner in a changing environment. The successful candidate will be a forward-looking individual with strong analytical and communication skills. Preferred: Experience with cataloging electronic resources and other non-print materials; Academic library cataloging experience with AACR2rev, LCSH, and LC classification; Experience with an online bibliographic utility and an integrated library system; Experience with online authority control.
