Dean of Library Services


Missouri State University located in Springfield, Missouri, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Library Services.  The successful candidate will possess the vision and leadership qualities necessary to move an already strong library to the next level.  The Dean provides academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership to the Libraries and reports directly to the Provost.  He or she will encourage faculty development, build partnerships with external constituents and public organizations, engage in fundraising, and facilitate the Public Affairs mission of the University as it relates to the University Libraries.

The candidate selected must have a strong record of academic leadership in librarianship and higher education, must have an ALA-accredited master’s degree, and must possess credentials that qualify him/her for appointment as a full professor at Missouri State University.

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

·        Master’s degree  or higher, in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution and credentials consistent with appointment at the rank of full professor at Missouri State University

·        Commitment to excellence in librarianship, teaching, research and service

·        Proven leadership and successful management of library professionals  in an academic setting;

·        Demonstrated ability to facilitate working relationships across the University and the broader library community

·        Interest in and commitment to fundraising, alumni relations and development activities

·        Evidence of commitment to diversity

·        Experience in  operational and fiscal management within a library environment
Missouri State University expects to select a new Dean of Library Services during the Spring 2012 semester to assume full-time responsibilities prior to the start of the Fall 2012 semester.  The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
