The Princeton University Library comprises a large central library and nine specialized libraries that are heavily used by an academic community of 6,400 students, 1,100 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. To support the diverse needs of its users, the Library holds some seven million printed volumes, ranging from incunabula to current imprints, and provides access to many other records of human knowledge, such as ancient papyri and cylinder seals, modern literary manuscripts, and recently produced electronic databases and journals. The Behavioral Sciences Librarian reports to the Head Librarian for Science and Technology Libraries and serves as a member of a team of librarians based in the Frank Gehry-designed Lewis Science Library (http://scilib.princeton.edu/), which opened in 2008. In collaboration with other subject specialists, this position shares responsibility for providing innovative library services that promote discovery, use, and integration of library collections in the academic life of the university community.

Responsibilities:
 The Behavioral Sciences Librarian serves as liaison to the faculty, students and associated researchers of the Department of Psychology and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute and works closely with other subject specialists to both support the research and instructional needs of other scientists and scholars on campus and develop and maintain world-class research collections in a growing area of university research. The successful candidate will balance a broad range of liaison-oriented activities, including general and specialized reference services, individual research consultations, group instruction, and in-depth collection development and management. This position will also inform and promote relevant scholarly communication issues to campus scholars, including the university’s Open Access policy for faculty research.

Qualifications


Required:

•  ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science;
•  minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an academic or special library;
•  academic coursework and/or work experience in relevant fields of study;
•  demonstrated understanding of the information needs and information-seeking habits of behavioral scientists;
•  experience developing and maintaining research collections;
•  demonstrated success in fostering teamwork, collaboration, and creativity;
•  exceptional analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
 
Preferred:

•  broad knowledge of information sources and research databases in academic libraries;
•  experience in the design and integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services;
•  demonstrated knowledge of science research and publication trends;
•  evidence of engagement in research and/or professional service.
 

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Annuity program (TIAA/CREF or Vanguard), group life insurance, health coverage insurance, disability insurance, and other benefits are available.

Rank:  The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate Librarian rank depending upon qualifications and experience with an initial term of appointment of three years.
