Archivist/Special Collections Librarian

ARCHIVIST/SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARIAN. 

The University of Maine Library is seeking an Archivist/Special Collections Librarian to work in its Special Collections Department, the holdings of which constitute one of the major resources for research on Maine History.  This is a 12-month, full-time position, with an excellent benefits package including TIAA-CREF and a dependent and employee tuition waver.  The anticipated starting salary range is $39,000 - $45,000, depending on qualifications.  Evening and weekend hours will be required. 

Responsibilities and Duties: Preparing and enhancing archival finding aids and cataloging records; providing reference assistance to on-site and off-site Special Collections’ researchers; working on digital library projects, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Has the education typically associated with ALA-accredited MLS or a Master’s degree in Archives or other appropriate field. Experience processing archival collections. Experience providing public service and an enthusiastic attitude about working with the public. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse staff and clientele. Strong computer literacy. Experience with web-site development. Database development, or other digital library projects. Experience with EAD (Encoded Archival Description). Ability to lift 30-50 pound occasionally. Must have authorization to work in the U.S. Appropriate background checks will be conducted. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Maine History.
