Head of Collections & Systems


Job Description: Rollins College is looking for a service-oriented librarian to help shape a dynamic, forward-looking liberal arts college library through the reorganization and management of the new Collections & Systems Department. The department brings together our existing Technical Services and Digital Services & Systems departments. This position will creatively and proactively lead a team of three faculty librarians and four staff members in developing and evaluating efficient workflows.

Under the direction of the Library Director, the Head of Collections & Systems will lead the team responsible for the acquisition, licensing, organization and description of library collections in all formats, and ongoing development and deployment of systems provided by the Olin Library. The successful candidate will, like all full time librarians at Rollins, participate in reference service, instruction and liaison with academic departments.

This is a faculty position. Librarians with faculty status at Rollins College are expected to show a pattern of growth and development in librarianship, teaching, scholarship and service that is expected to continue throughout their career at Rollins.

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or an equivalent degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications: A second masters in an academic discipline is preferred. Two or more years of experience supervising staff and/or librarians, and education or experience indicating the ability to administer the technical services and systems used in modern libraries is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate most if not all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: ability to lead and manage a department; ability to effectively plan projects from vision to evaluation; ability to deal with and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment; ability to communicate well orally and in writing; ability to interact with the public effectively and courteously; ability to work in a team environment and independently; significant knowledge of one or more of the library subspecialties of acquisitions, cataloging, metadata, systems, automation, digitization or collection development; an appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education; skills in implementation and administration of a variety of systems and applications; demonstrated knowledge and experience with web-based resources; ability to collect, manage and communicate numerical information accurately and clearly; enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals and the potential to present, publish or otherwise contribute to the library profession.
