Public Services/Information Literacy Librarian


Western State College of Colorado

Position: Western State College of Colorado seeks an energetic and enthusiastic librarian to lead and participate in the design, delivery, and assessment of information literacy instruction. The primary audience is first and second year undergraduate students. Collaboration with and outreach to faculty is essential to the success of the program. The individual in this position will also manage the content of the library’s web site to provide effective access to library resources.

Additional duties include: staffing the reference desk; participating in a statewide virtual reference service; collaborating with library staff to develop the library’s collections; serving on campus committees; and participating with all library staff in setting goals and objectives for the library. Some night and weekend work is required.
The public services/information literacy librarian reports to the director of library services. This is a 12-month administrative position.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, including experience: $36,500 – $40,000 per year. Benefits include an employee/employer shared contribution retirement plan and life and health insurance.

Qualifications: M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program; demonstrated effective teaching, presentation, and communication skills; ability to learn new technology applications as needed; experience in reference and instruction; and ability to work well individually and as part of a team of librarians and library support staff required. Preferred qualifications are: knowledge of and familiarity with ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, experience in library web page design, experience in an undergraduate library setting; and experience with emerging technologies to enhance learning.
