Cataloging Specialist for Continuing Resources

Eastern Washington University seeks to hire an experienced Library Paraprofessional to serve as the Cataloging Specialist for Continuing Resources. 

Job Responsibilities:  Perform original descriptive and subject cataloging and classification in accordance with established cataloging rules for serials and other continuing resources, materials for the Curriculum Center, and other resources in all formats as assigned. Review and edit copy (contributed) cataloging records for serials and other continuing resources, including periodicals, GPO continuing resources, Washington State documents, Curriculum Center materials, and other library resources as assigned, particularly electronic resources. Create and maintain holdings information for continuing and multi-part resources in all formats. Assist with authority maintenance and other catalog database updating. Serve as senior consultant to staff regarding cataloging of continuing resources and Curriculum Center materials.  

Position requires five years' experience in the functional operations of a library including two years beyond the entry level in an area of specialization.

To meet the requirement for "two years beyond the entry level in an area of specialization," the candidate selected for this position must offer at least two years' recent experience (experience acquired within the past five years is considered recent) working in library cataloging operations, and which must include *ALL* of the following functions related to cataloging operations:

*Using OCLC bibliographic database (OCLC WorldCat), including OCLC authority file to catalog library resources;
*Using an online local library system, such as Innovative Interfaces Millennium system, for cataloging, serials check-in, and related functions;
*Using standard cataloging and classification tools, such as AACR, RDA, LCC, etc. , to perform complex copy (contributed) cataloging.
