Collection Development Coordinator/Reference and Instruction Librarian

Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, seeks a Collection Development Coordinator/Reference and Instruction Librarian.  

This individual will provide leadership for collection development, acquisition and licensing of the print and electronic resources of the Cushwa-Leighton Library.  In collaboration with academic departments, the collection development coordinator develops and reviews collection development policies.

The successful candidate will also provide reference services, including some evening and weekend shifts shared with six other librarians.  Other responsibilities include collaborating with faculty in achieving student information literacy learning outcomes in the general education curriculum and courses for majors.  Librarians at Saint Mary’s College hold tenure track positions without rank.

Saint Mary’s college is a Catholic, four-year liberal arts institution for women located in South Bend, Indiana, with an enrollment of approximately 1600 students,  http://www.saintmarys.edu.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library or information science (or its equivalent) from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association.
Knowledge of collection development, including but not limited to, resource allocation, approval plan management, selection and delivery of electronic resources, and collection evaluation.
Knowledge of trends and issues in academic library collection development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff and administrators in culturally diverse environment.
Enthusiasm about working in a changing environment and ability to effect change in a positive way.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience working in an academic library.
Proficiency in financial management and budget planning.
Awareness of current trends in publishing, best practices in licensing, and digital library initiatives.
Experience providing reference and instruction services.
Ability to think creatively in developing services, course-integrated instruction, and outreach efforts, that meet the needs of a diverse user community.
