Coordinator for Science and Engineering


Northwestern University Library seeks a creative, energetic, service-oriented professional to coordinate collection development and faculty outreach in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. The Coordinator for Science and Engineering position will report to the Head of the Academic Liaison Services Department within the Public Services Division.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES. The Coordinator for Science and Engineering will be responsible for: general oversight of the academic liaison work of approximately seven subject librarians; working with disciplinary coordinators for humanities, social sciences, area studies, and interdisciplinary studies on education and outreach, collection development, and selection activities common to all disciplines; acting as the library’s liaison to faculty, students, and other users in chemistry, physics and potentially other fields; providing specialized instruction, research consultations, and a range of information delivery services; developing and maintaining subject collections in assigned areas of responsibility; managing funds allocated to support assigned subject areas; monitoring fund management for selectors in engineering and the sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS. A minimum of five years experience as a librarian at an academic or other research library, with reference and collection management experience, is required. Experience as a chemistry specialist or librarian is preferred. Undergraduate degree in science and Masters Degree in library and information studies or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
