Description of the Library:
Kent Library combines traditional library services with a twenty-first century information commons concept. Kent Library employs over thirty-three faculty and staff, and has an operating budget in excess of two million dollars. The collection includes over 450,000 monographic volumes; access to substantial tangible and online periodical holdings and reference sources; and audio, video and image collections. Kent Library’s Special Collections includes over 3,500 linear feet of historical and literary materials, including a world-class William Faulkner Collection housed in the library’s Rare Book Room. Kent Library is a member of the MOBIUS consortium, comprised of over 60 Missouri libraries. The library is also the congressionally designated selected federal depository serving Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District. Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and administer all aspects of library services to meet the scholarly and general information needs of the University and its service region
  • Coordinate development and management of library collections
  • Coordinate budgets and strategic planning
  • Serve on university and library-wide committees
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a university or college library with progressively responsible professional and administrative experience
  • Experience with managerial duties, e.g., planning, budgeting, managing personnel, and facilities management
  • Ability to work with multiple constituencies, both internal and external to the University, e.g., vendors, library liaisons, library consortia, community groups, and donors
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in academic libraries and higher education

Scholarly Communications and Institutional Repository Librarian

Utah State University Libraries seek an energetic, articulate, and well-organized person to assume management of the University’s thriving DigitalCommons Institutional Repository (IR) and Scholarly Communication activities.  The successful candidate will have a keen interest in scholarly communication and copyright issues, and a willingness to learn and develop additional expertise through professional development opportunities in these areas.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Initiatives, the position is a 12-month, tenure track, faculty appointment with rank as assistant librarian.  This position works both independently and in a collaborative environment to promote use of DigitalCommons as a repository for university research and publications (faculty and student works, online journals, USU press, etc.) and as an integrated tool in the scholarly communication process on campus.   This position also leads the efforts to raise awareness of scholarly communication issues, such as open access, and actively participates in the USU Copyright Committee.

Responsibilities and duties include:

·         Managing the daily operation of the IR.  This involves adding and editing content, working with vendors, training other library staff, etc.
·         Working with appropriate vendors and staff to maintain the DigitalCommons website which includes EdiKit and Selected Works
·         Creating and updating IR policies, procedures, and other necessary documentation
·         Maintaining and developing new partnerships with Library subject liaisons, USU faculty, USU departments and research units, and journal editors for adding content to the IR
·         Promoting the IR to the campus community
·         Advising and educating the campus community about authors’ rights and other copyright issues related to scholarly communication
·         Collecting and analyzing and reporting IR usage data
·         Coordinating and providing training in support of the IR and scholarly communication on campus

Qualifications:

Required
·         ALA-accredited Masters degree (must be completed no later than Aug. 2011)
·         Prior success in managing projects
·         Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
·         Excellent interpersonal skills for successful interaction via email, phone, in person, and in presentation venues
·         Demonstrated effectiveness in problem-solving

Assistant Branch Manager


St. Louis Public Library has an opening for an Assistant Branch Manager. Candidates must have a MLS Degree from an ALA Accredited Library School and 3 years library experience that includes youth services, public libraries and staff supervision.

The person filling this position must have knowledge of library materials, issues and trends.  Experience with reference and children’s and young adult materials.  The Assistant Branch Manager mediates patron complaints, supervises staff in Branch Manager’s absence, prepares schedules, assigns duties, and evaluates performance to ensure quality service. 

The person will develop and train staff, and will be involved in material selections conducive to the community.  Must have strong supervisory skills and excellent communication skills.  Provide patron service orientation for work in the library and community.  The Assistant Branch Manager participates in community events and works with community group in order to promote the Library and its initiatives.  Computer literacy is a necessity and must have a definite commitment to public service.

Branch Manager


The person in this position must have excellent supervisory skills to manage the day-to-day operation of a neighborhood branch.  It is essential that the person in this position be able to direct the activities of others, while maintaining excellent customer relations skills.  Must have superior abilities in the area of reference and reader’s advisory.  Also, will have the knowledge of reference tools, bibliographic sources, cataloging and classification systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to assigned areas of responsibility.  Should possess organizational and report writing skills, attention to detail is required.  Additionally, operational support is needed in the areas of circulation, statistical reporting, opening and closing of the branch, collection development, and presentations and directing daily branch operations.  Must have strong professional skills in community outreach and programming.  Should be able to meet deadlines and follow SLPL Policies and Procedures.  Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.  Verbal, written and computer skills are essential.  An MLS Degree from an ALA accredited program and three years of library experience is required.

Digital Scholarship and Data Management Librarian

Under the direction of the Digital Libraries Team Leader the Digital Scholarship and Data Management Librarian will be primarily responsible for enhancing University Library’s Program of Digital Scholarship through the development of a robust data service plan.  The individual will also assist with the continued support of IUPUI University Library’s current digital scholarship tools and services including the institutional repository and journal publishing system.  This librarian will have the following duties:

English Liaison Librarian/Liberal Arts Team Leader

The English Liaison Librarian/Liberal Arts Team Leader is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with the faculty and students of the department.  Responsibilities include the design and presentation of instructional materials, developing the library’s collection of discipline-related materials, and providing research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.  Important to this position is an understanding of how digital tools are changing scholarly communication and a commitment to active involvement in supporting faculty scholarly communication needs.

The successful candidate will also be offered an administrative appointment as leader of the library’s Liberal Arts team.  The Liberal Arts team leader manages the serials budget in support of the School of Liberal Arts.  The successful candidate will provide supervision and professional guidance to members of the Liberal Arts team and it is expected that this person will play a leadership role and have the ability to manage tenure-track librarians.  The successful candidate will also help facilitate the integration of subject liaisons’ active involvement in supporting faculty scholarly communication needs.  The Liberal Arts team leader reports to the Associate Dean for Teaching, Learning, and Research.

Associate Dean for Information Resources and Director of the Law Library
Florida International University College of Law invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Information Resources, with primary responsibilities for heading the Law Library.  The Associate Dean will report directly to the Dean of the College of Law, who is committed to building and supporting an active and responsive law library.
Applicants should have experience in the development of legal collections, the management of the full range of legal information resources, and the hiring and supervision of professional, technical, and support staff.  The Associate Dean plays an advisory and instructional role in the legal research curriculum of the College of Law and, depending upon qualifications and preferences, in our other curricular offerings.
Candidates should hold both a Juris Doctor and a degree in Library/Information Science.  The Associate Dean for Information Resources is a member of the faculty and administration of the College of Law. Position may be long-term contract or tenure-earning in the library, subject to discussion.  The Associate Dean will shape the College of Law’s Internet presence, work closely with the law school’s and the university’s technology directors to implement research and instructional technology within the law library, and collaborate with other administrators within the university on crafting research and instructional technology strategy for the law school and the university.

The law library maintains extensive collections of domestic and foreign legal materials, including rare and valuable Latin American and Caribbean law texts and treatises.  In the past, the law librarians have participated actively in teaching legal research and methods to law students.  The library also supports the College of Law’s clinical and community service missions by making acquisitions and providing reference services.  The staff of the law library includes six professional librarians (one position currently vacant) and at least six reference and technical services staff members.

Digital Initiatives Librarian

Digital Initiatives Librarian

The Digital Initiatives Librarian will provide leadership, project management, and work in the creation, development, and production services associated with the Library’s digital collections and related projects. This innovative, energetic individual will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement policies, procedures, workflows, and metadata standards for the Library’s digital collections program; manage assigned digitization projects; and participate in the overall management of digital collections. This position reports to the Associate University Librarian, and is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant Professor. The incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively to build partnerships within the Library and the campus; engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession.

Specific Responsibilities
• Lead, manage, and participate in projects related to the Library’s digital collections and preservation program in collaboration with stakeholders, establishing policies and best practices for the long-term protection of and access to digital objects.
• Lead, manage, and participate in the planning and implementation of digitization projects in a variety of formats. This includes keeping up to date with national metadata standards and schemas, and being responsible for interpreting and adapting those for local purposes.
• Provide plans for digital projects, monitor the timely progress of ongoing projects, and create documentation for project-related activities.
• Lead and participate in content recruitment activities, acting as a liaison for digitization and metadata projects with other teams within the library and/or other campus groups.
• Assist with training and technical advice to library staff regarding digitization standards and metadata assignment.
• Evaluate, analyze, and implement systems-related aspects related to digitization, digital preservation, and metadata operations.
• Participate in the collaborative development of metadata/cataloging tools, and discovery and presentation tools and applications.
• Participate in digital library-related initiatives and projects with Oregon University System institutions, the Orbis Cascade Alliance, and other groups, as assigned.
• Participate in marketing and outreach efforts by contributing content to the Library’s Web sites, blogs, and electronic publications.
• Adhere to University and Library policies and procedures, including Portland State University’s Professional Standards of Conduct (http://www.pdx.edu/hr/professional-standards-conduct).
• Participate in the establishment of short- and long-range goals, objectives, and priorities, aligned with those of the Library and the University.
• Participate in promoting and providing visibility for a positive, responsive image of the Library and its services to the University community and the community at large.
• Communicate openly and professionally with staff, colleagues, and with Library administration.
• Maintain current expertise through participation in workshops, classes, professional associations and networks, and through continued awareness of the scholarly literature.
• Pursue active publication and research agenda.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree earned from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program.
• Demonstrated project management experience in a highly collaborative environment.
• Minimum of two years of professional experience in digital initiatives, digital collections or metadata services in an academic library.
• Demonstrated technical experience with current digital collection technologies, standards, platforms, and products.
• Knowledge of the standards and technological framework for digital preservation.
• Working knowledge of metadata standards, including non-MARC schema such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD, TEI, VRA.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging national cataloging standards, including MARC, controlled vocabularies, RDA, FRBR, etc.
• Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Commitment to professional development and service.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Technology skills and experience appropriate for the position.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues, faculty, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Substantial experience in collaboratively managing multiple and simultaneous projects.
• Familiarity with DSpace or other content management software, and knowledge of Institutional Repositories management, including policy matters, intellectual property issues, and strategies for recruiting appropriate content.
• Thorough knowledge of OCLC bibliographic utilities, and experience with cataloging in an Integrated Library System, preferably in the Innovative Interfaces, Inc.’s Millennium system.

Head of Reference

• Sharing in the daily work of the Reference department including reference services, instruction and web content development; includes some evening and weekend work

• Engaging in professional activities, especially those related to effective management and user-focused services
• Selecting materials in all formats for general reference use
