Cataloging and Metadata Librarian

The University Library seeks a collegial, committed, and energetic librarian to provide leadership and guidance in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the library’s cataloging and metadata services.

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian coordinates the cataloging of library materials, regardless of format, including monographs, continuing resources, media, maps, ETDs and special collections. The successful candidate will supervise, train and evaluate staff in cataloging, database maintenance and non-MARC metadata creation; work closely with staff to evaluate and document policies, procedures and efficient workflows within the department; and, work with Digital Library Services and other departments to establish relevant metadata policies, procedures and workflows for digital projects. As a faculty member, the cataloging and metadata librarian will perform administrative duties and participate in university and professional activities, including research, publication, planning and decision making processes for the department and library.

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian reports to the Head Technical Services and supervises two Library Technical Assistants in the Cataloging Unit.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science
• Experience working in an academic library
• Experience with MARC, AACR2R, LCSH, LC Classification, OCLC Connexion and an integrated library system
• Professional understanding and knowledge of various non-MARC metadata formats, such as Dublin Core, EAD, METS and MODS
• Familiarity with current trends, best practices and emerging issues in metadata, digitization and library automation

Manager of Library Technologies

The Manager of Library Technologies at the Portland State University Library provides a key role in the leadership of the Library’s information technology infrastructure and services, including supervision of the Library Technologies team’s activities and staff. This position oversees library technology projects and systems, and works with system vendors, programmers, librarians, staff, and public end-users to develop, evaluate, implement, and support a variety of systems. Services and systems currently include: the Library’s integrated library system (Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium system), the Library’s multiple Web sites, servers, and interfaces; major applications for interlibrary loan and course reserves operations, the PSU digital repository, instructional technology, and provision of staff and public computing. This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified, excluded, unranked position. This position reports to the Associate University Librarian.

Specific Responsibilities
• Adhere to University and Library policies and procedures, including Portland State University’s Professional Standards of Conduct (http://www.pdx.edu/hr/professional-standards-conduct).
• Manage the Library Technologies team of four staff and two students. Plan, coordinate, and evaluate daily operations of the team’s activities, projects, and staff so as to provide timely, professional, and consistent library service.
o Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate Library Technologies team members, as necessary, maintaining established unit performance standards and providing conflict resolution when necessary.
o Act as advocate of unit staff and be committed to staff development and staff participation in unit planning and decision making; promote high staff performance through teamwork, job training and enrichment, encouragement of innovation and recognition for achievement.
o Manage technology-related vendor relations, including selection and performance evaluation.
o Coordinate unit activities with those of other Library units.
• Lead the Integrated Library System (ILS) team and attend other functional subgroups’ meetings as necessary; provide oversight and management of technical support and coordination for ILS-related issues and functions. • Participate in the continual evaluation of the technologies being provided in the Portland State Library, making suggestions for service enhancements, greater efficiency, or cost containment; collect and analyze management data for patterns and trends that suggest a need for change, or positioning for the future; and prepare reports on activities, problems, challenges, and accomplishments of acquisitions and preservation.
• Ensure that the short- and long-range planning processes for Library Technologies are anticipatory, rather than reactive, and that they provide an effective means to meet the Library’s mission and priorities. Evaluate alternatives in terms of cost effectiveness, quality of services, and larger institutional priorities.
• Participate in leadership within the Resource Services & Technology (RST) unit through participation in the Coordinating Team (C-Team), which helps to advise the Associate UL in the development of unit-wide policies and guidelines. • Coordinate communication concerning library technologies-related issues, services, policies, and procedures with library staff, users, academic units served, and external partners.
• Participate in promoting and providing visibility for a positive, responsive image of the Library and its services to the University community and the community at large.
• Communicate openly and professionally with staff, colleagues, and with Library Administration.
• Participate in the establishment of short- and long-range library information technology goals, objectives, and priorities, aligned with those of the Library and the University.
• Maintain current expertise through participation in workshops, classes, professional associations and networks, and through continued awareness of the scholarly literature.
• Represent the Library at local, regional, and national meetings, conferences and symposia, as assigned.
• Contribute to the work of relevant committees and workgroups in the Library, the University, and the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
• Work independently and collaboratively with library users, and library, campus, and consortial colleagues. • Be committed to the principles of diversity and staff development.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• B.A. or B.S., preferably in a related field.
• Evidence of two years or more experience managing information technologies and systems. • Demonstrated experience managing an integrated library management system (Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium system preferred).
• Demonstrated personnel management experience, including hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
• Working knowledge and/or experience managing Web sites and digital resources.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, planning, and/or project management, including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in relation to goals and objectives.
• Demonstrated proficiency in digital technologies, applications, reporting, and utility tools. • Evidence of excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends related to information technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent.
• Experience in higher education/academic libraries.
• Experience with Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium system, OCLC’s ILLiad system, Docutek ERes, and library digitization projects.

• Knowledge of Web technologies, standards, and software; Unix and Windows operating systems; library information technology standards and protocols; proxy servers and remote patron authentication; database design, administration and reporting; common programming and scripting languages; and metadata standards.
• Experience with Web authoring tools and graphical editing tools.

Coordinator, Virtual Services and Instructional Technologies

Position and Responsibilities:
Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, service-oriented, and dynamic blended librarian and manager to lead online learning and research initiatives in a fast-paced and innovative setting. The Coordinator is responsible for leading the effort to further define online learning and research support for a growing research university and for working collaboratively with library and university communities to deliver those services. Data Management Librarian

Temporary Special Collections Librarian

Library Director

St. Charles City-County Library—Your Answer Place!—seeks an innovative leader for this progressive Missouri library district. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated Board of Trustees and lead a team of talented professionals to continue to realize outstanding results. St. Charles County, a western suburb of St. Louis, is located on the east side of Missouri and combines the attractions and convenience of the metropolitan area with small town character and historical charm. Good schools, solid educational and recreational amenities and a low cost of living make St. Charles County an attractive place to live. The Library District, serves its nearly 359,000 residents through 12 locations. With a dedicated staff (188.2 FTEs), an active volunteer program, Friends of the Library and Foundation, the Library utilizes its $15.9 million operating budget to loan approximately 7.5 million items annually and provides an array of programs and unique information services to the community. Responsibilities. The Director of the St. Charles City-County Library District reports to a nine-member Board of Trustees and is the chief executive officer of the Library District, responsible for implementing policies adopted and promulgated by the Board and those prescribed by Missouri State Statutes. Illustrative duties include: organization of personnel within the system; budget planning for submission to the Board; maintaining contact with area government and special school districts; developing broad-based programs; communicating with Board and staff; keeping informed of developments within the library sphere; constantly reviewing total library services in relation to community needs; input into the development of employee benefit programs and salaries; membership and participation in professional and community organizations. The primary responsibility of the Director is to develop all aspects of the St. Charles City-County Library District to best meet the needs of the community.

Qualifications
. A master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program; a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible public library experience; and at least four years of experience in a highly responsible administrative position. Essential attributes and skills include: creativity, energy and enthusiasm; demonstrated success in effectively promoting library services to the community; political acumen; collaborative and consensus-building skills; experience in providing sound fiscal planning and management; and a thorough knowledge of current trends, technology and “best practices” for public libraries. Success working effectively as a director reporting to a governing board and advanced course work (MPA, MBA, etc.) are highly desirable.

Compensation. A starting salary range of $95,000-$120,000 (with final placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) and a generous benefits package.

Electronic Resources Librarian and Assistant Professor

The University of Mississippi Libraries seeks an Electronic Resources Librarian with energy and initiative to provide leadership and effective management of the libraries’ electronic resources. Recent graduates who are interested in managing electronic resources and working in a collaborative environment are encouraged to apply.

Under the direction of the Head of Serials, the candidate will: serve as a liaison to vendors regarding electronic resource technical issues; coordinate vendor demonstrations and trials; provide feedback on technical compatibility with electronic resource infrastructure; manage the technical changes necessary for electronic resource management; maintain the information in our Electronic Resource Management module (Innovative Interfaces); manage the libraries’ link resolver and the integrated proxy (Web Access Management); collect and analyze usage statistics for electronic resources; manage related display of resources in various library systems and website; load the monthly coverage and MARC records from Serial Solutions; maintain current awareness of emerging trends; and serve on both the Electronic Resource Management Team as well as the library-wide collection development team.

Qualifications: ALA accredited master's degree by date of employment; evidence of experience with electronic resources technologies and research-oriented electronic resources; understanding of the principles of link resolvers; demonstrated analytical problem solving skills and initiative; an aptitude for detail-oriented work; strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented, and dynamic environment; and a commitment to meet established library criteria for promotion and tenure, including professional service and published research.

The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Minimum annual salary is $40,000, and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
