The University of the Pacific seeks an Access Services/Music Librarian with energy, initiative, and vision to provide effective leadership and direction in the provision of library resources and services. The University Library serves the Conservatory of Music, which was founded in 1878 and is the oldest music school on the West Coast. Library collections supporting the Conservatory are integrated into the general collections, and this integrated approach is also reflected in the University Library’s public services model. This position offers a challenging range of activities in public services, collection development, and technical and digital services areas. The Access Services/Music Librarian will focus on public, digital, and technical services initiatives to include Cataloging & Metadata, Digital Initiatives, and education and outreach to Conservatory students and faculty. The Access Services/Music Librarian will provide leadership in the design and implementation of services that enhance access to the University Library’s collections throughout the University community.
* Develops and delivers a range of innovative library services and information resources that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in the Conservatory of Music;
* Provides reference and research assistance, instruction, and outreach services;
* Cultivates relationships with teaching faculty in relevant subject areas;
* Employs new technologies in pursuit of teaching and learning, including design and development of web-based resources and streaming audio reserves;
* Selects print and electronic resources in support of curriculum and research in relevant subject areas;
* Collaborates with technical service operations to provide access to the music collection, including original cataloging of scores, recordings and other music materials, authority control, preservation, database maintenance;
* Participates in the creation of metadata for digital projects;
* Working with the University Library’s Circulation staff, responsible for oversight of the circulation, course reserves, and the physical facilities, security, equipment maintenance and management of the library’s collections and stacks;
* Coordinates the Library’s copyright compliance services for print and electronic resources;
· Work effectively in a multicultural setting with a deep commitment to supporting and promoting diversity in higher education;
* Collaborates and actively participates in local, regional, national, or international organizations regarding related issues;
* Serves on/participates in University and Library committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate;
* Engages in scholarly/creative/professional activity as appropriate;
* Some evening and weekend work is required.
· ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science;
· Advanced knowledge and/or experience in music;
· Experience in delivering education, information, and research services in an academic or research library;
· Supervisory ability and effectiveness with a strong commitment to mentoring and professional development for staff;
· Excellent management, organization, and time management skills;
· Enthusiasm and aptitude for public services within a flexible and continually evolving academic library environment;
· Commitment to cooperative teamwork and quality service;
· Ability to apply new technologies to library services;
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
· Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in the development and delivery of operations and services in a technology driven, dynamic and diverse environment.
· Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a multicultural setting and a deep commitment to supporting and promoting diversity in higher education.
* Academic degree in music;
* Demonstrated knowledge of music cataloging using AACR2, LC classification and subject headings, and the MARC format;
* Working knowledge and experience with metadata schema and protocols;
* Two years experience in Access Services in an academic library;
* Awareness of current issues and trends in cataloging, metadata, and digital library development;
* Evidence of continued professional development involvement and contribution.
* Experience developing web-based learning resources.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
* Salary from $50,000, negotiable depending upon experience;
* Faculty rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience; non-tenure track.
