The Contra Costa County Library in Northern California is recruiting creative, enthusiastic and innovative leaders to fill a vacant Deputy County Librarian: Public Services position. This position is one of three Deputy County Librarian positions and will report to the County Librarian.

The Position:
Serves as a member of the Library’s Executive Management Team; Oversees the operation of over a dozen community libraries, as well as major functions of the library such as reading and literacy or lifelong learning, through subordinate supervisors; Prepares and presents budgets; Provides leadership in the assessment of library and community needs and interests; Plans, develops and evaluates service needs and related methods of delivery; Resolves issues of concern to the public and staff; Creates and maintains relationships with cities, schools and community based organizations to effectively plan resource needs and uses; Participates in planning new and expanded facilities; Guides the implementation of the strategic plan; Represents the County Library at Library Commission, community, governmental, professional and other meetings; Analyzes staffing requirements and recruits, interviews and hires library staff; Establishes performance indicators, and prepares and utilizes a variety of complex records and reports pertinent to library operations; Develops and presents recommendations on the formulation of library policy and practices; Provides leadership in promoting staff development, training and mentoring; Functions as the library’s project manager for special projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires possession of a Master of Library Science degree from a school of Librarianship accredited by the American Library Association, and four (4) years of full-time or its equivalent professional experience in a public library, at least three (3) years of which must have been as manager of a major library program or division and included the supervision of professional librarians.
