Reference and Information Services Librarian (2 positions)

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Helmke Library seeks energetic and knowledgeable individuals to provide general reference and information services, and specialized research support, instruction, and collection development. One librarian serves as liaison to the College of Health and Human Services and departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Geosciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. The second librarian serves as liaison to the History, Political Science, and Anthropology Departments and serves as the coordinator of the Local, State, Federal, and International Government Documents program. Interviews will be conducted for a 12-month, tenure-track position to begin July 1, 2009.

Responsibilities: Successful candidates will contribute substantially to the library's ongoing initiative to integrate public services, collections, and instruction in the dynamic environment of desktop information delivery. Within areas of liaison assignments, responsible for evaluating, selecting, and using printed and electronic resources, planning and updating library Web pages, providing information and instructional services, and developing innovative services and user aids. Will work closely with colleagues to develop outreach activities for students and faculty in liaison areas, contribute to projects associated with IPFW's mDON Mastodon Digital Objects Network as appropriate, teach and assess information literacy competencies in partnership with faculty, and develop, manage, and provide expertise in government documents. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications: An A.L.A.-accredited master's degree in library or information science is required. Preference given to candidates with experience in academic library settings, especially in the areas of liaison assignments and government documents. Must demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, ready knowledge of general reference resources, research tools in liaison areas, and government information, strong commitment to accurate, responsive information services, and desire for continuous learning and self-improvement. Must have the ability to work in a team-based environment. Must be able to meet the responsibilities of a tenure-track appointment by demonstrating focus, initiative, innovation, and impact in job performance, professional development, research/creativity, and service. Salary and benefits: Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience.
