Salary Range - $78,745 - $129,142



DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Broward County is seeking a dynamic, proven leader for the position of Assistant Director of Libraries of a large nationally recognized library system. The library system includes a staff of 800 + employees, a Main Library, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, five Regional Libraries, 31 Community Branches, a digital branch with 24/7 remote access, and partnership facilities with local educational institutions.

This is a highly responsible administrative position that involves planning, organizing, and directing the activities of Public Service within the Libraries Division of County Government. Work involves responsibility for the administration and direction of operations of the Libraries Public Service Section, including the development of policies, supervision of professional personnel, planning and organization of services to the public and development of administrative procedures. The incumbent assists in administering the County’s Library program; directs through subordinates the planning, scheduling and coordination of divisional activities; develops policies, procedures and priorities to meet established goals.

The incumbent assists in developing, implementing and maintaining strategic, fiscal, and capital improvement plans for the Libraries Division; assists in the preparation and monitoring the Division’s budget and prepares special reports as required; assists with coordinating and planning of new library facilities; periodically serves as Libraries consultant to participating communities, municipal governments, library advisory boards, school officials and the general public; plans library development programs and initiates them in accordance with accepted policies; address groups and prepare reports and informational articles concerning the library programs; and attends conferences, public and professional meetings. Assignments are received from the Division Director in the form of broad instructions or general program objectives. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment within established guidelines by an administrative superior. Performance is reviewed periodically through conferences and written reports. The incumbent performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Master's Degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association; six (6) years progressively responsible experience in a large multi-service library system, including two (2) years in high level supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.

SPECIAL INFORMATION: Experience in a large complex Public Library system within a Commissioner form of City/County/State Government is highly desirable. Such experience should be clearly documented in the resume.
