Essential Job Functions:
The Library Director is chief administrator of the university library with responsibility for the quality of library services for students, faculty and staff and assists the Associate Provost for Information Services (CIO) in providing leadership in technology planning and working collaboratively with campus constituents in setting priorities for the deployment of information technology to carry out the teaching, research, service and administrative goals of the university.

The Library Director has responsibility for ensuring that the library carries out its mission within the context of the University mission. The primary mission of the library is to develop, organize and preserve a knowledge base which meets the curricular and scholarly needs of the faculty, students and staff; to provide access to the information sources available in our local collections, throughout the UW System, nationally and internationally in a timely fashion; to instruct students in effective information research methods and assist them in their research projects; to support the academic programs through collections, services and special projects; and, to serve as an intellectual and cultural resource for the campus.

The Library Director oversees the management of the Information Services Division in the absence of the CIO and assists the CIO in carrying out the mission of the Information Services Division to provide information and technology resources for all campus offices.

Qualifications:
Required:
MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited university; minimum of five years of relevant experience in an academic library; ability to lead and develop the talent of professional and support staff; experience with a wide range of information technology; demonstrated success in managing projects; excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills; effective communication skills including the ability to translate technical information into non-technical language; ability to track information and technology trends and envision benefits for information access, instructional technology and management systems; demonstrated effectiveness as an advocate and public speaker; awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student and faculty populations; ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages; demonstrated organizational and planning skills.

Preferred:
Teaching experience; leadership experience in professional associations; participation in campus governance; involvement in community groups.

Conditions of Appointment:
Position is a full-time appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). Employment will require a criminal background check. Periodic travel to UW System meetings and conferences.

Salary:
Salary range of: $82,000 - $95,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in a state retirement plan (Total Compensation Estimator)
