Head, Metadata and Content Management

The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library is seeking an innovative and dynamic librarian to provide leadership and expertise relating to acquiring, managing, and providing access to print and electronic resources for the Norris Medical Library and Wilson Dental Library. This position offers the opportunity to creatively apply emerging technologies to improve information access in support of the library’s mission.

Norris Medical Library is located on the University of Southern California Health Sciences Campus in Los Angeles. The library contains 174,841 volumes and receives 846 current print periodicals and 2,425 current electronic journals. Users include medical, pharmacy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy students, 1,483 full-time faculty, and a large number of other health professionals. Responsibilities

· Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 4 full-time staff and 1.1 FTE student
workers.
· Oversee acquisition and management of electronic and print resources.
· Plan, implement, and manage automated systems in coordination with
Associate Director, Collection Resources.
· Manage operations to increase efficiency and lower costs and
turnaround times.
· Perform original cataloging for both Health Sciences Libraries and review
copy cataloging.
· Develop new systems to improve access to information
· Participate in reference services.
· Participate in library planning; serve on library, campus, and university
committees; participate in professional scholarly and service activities.

Qualifications Master’s degree from an ALA accredited graduate program (MLIS). Knowledge of cataloging or other metadata applications. Familiarity with current library trends, standards and emerging technologies. demonstrated interest in the use of technology to improve access to library service and materials. Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, strong user-service orientation; ability to work cooperatively and in a team environment; excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge of NLM classification and MeSH. Experience with using AACR2, MARC bibliographic and authority records for all formats. Experience in an academic medical library.

Salary/Status $50,00 - $65,000 Depending on experience. Continuing-appointment track position.
