Electronic Resources Librarian

Georgia State University (GSU) Library seeks an energetic, knowledgeable and visionary librarian to provide leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the University Libraries’ collection of electronic resources. This position reports to the Head of the Acquisitions Department and will have administrative responsibility for the Acquisitions Department in the absence of the department head.

Georgia State University Library recently completed a $20-million renovation of its main libraries, creating one of the most dynamic user spaces in the southeast. The Library is part of a vibrant urban university intertwined with the city of Atlanta; a metropolitan area of diverse communities and abundant cultural activities and venues. The Library is an important partner in teaching and research at the University with over 1.4 million volumes and an environment which encourages active learning and study. The Library employs self-motivated, creative, and dedicated staffs who have the opportunity to work with a diverse faculty and student population, as well as participate in Library and University governance. The Library collections reflect the needs of the University, and the Library is engaged in several digital initiatives designed to provide access to an array of scholarly information.

Library services are supported by the Ex Libris Voyager integrated library system. The University System of Georgia statewide system, GALILEO, provides access to electronic resources and other materials for libraries throughout Georgia. The University Library is a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries, the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), and the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.

Responsibilities
The electronic resources librarian’s responsibilities will include: coordinating the purchase and licensing of all electronic materials; implementing and managing electronic resource management applications including SFX, MetaLib, Verde, and GALILEO Local Resources Integration; keeping abreast of developments in electronic resources; facilitating workflow and communication among the units responsible for acquiring, licensing, cataloging and maintaining access to e-resources; coordinating with subject liaisons to identify, research and evaluate electronic products and offers; collecting usage statistics and disseminating information to librarians for review on a regular basis, monitoring usage of e-resources; creating and maintaining statistical reports needed to manage electronic collections; performing administrative duties and participating in university and professional activities including research, publication, planning, procedure development and implementation, and policy and decision making processes for the department and library.

Requirements
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science. Knowledge of issues associated with the acquisition and management of electronic resources. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. PREFERRED: Experience with the negotiation of licenses for electronic resources; knowledge of contemporary practices, issues and trends in the management of electronic resources; experience working in an integrated environment; supervisory experience.

Salary and Rank
$43,000-$58,000 for 12 months commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
