Acquisitions Services Librarian

Dartmouth College Library seeks an energetic and creative librarian to serve as Acquisitions Services Librarian. In the absence of the Head of Acquisitions Services, the Acquisitions Librarian acts as department head. The Acquisitions Librarian participates in the overall management of a 21-member, highly-technical acquisitions department that provides essential support for all collection development activities and an information resources budget of approximately 9 million dollars.

The Acquisitions Librarian will oversee continuing resources and statistical activities, FastCat cataloging processes, and staff development and training. As a member of the department's management team, the Acquisitions Librarian will participate in goal setting, policy development and assessment. He or she will directly supervise 6 or more staff members and various department work teams, provide training and guidance to staff, participate in performance review, analyze workflows, and recommend, design and implement workflow changes as needed.

Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS. A minimum of 3 years experience in an academic library. Demonstrated knowledge of library acquisitions and/or collection development operations, library automated systems and serials acquisitions (including electronic). Knowledge of statistics and spreadsheet applications. Supervision and/or training experience. Familiarity with budget and financial activities related to acquisitions and collection development. Knowledge of MARC format and cataloging practices. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral and written communications and problem-solving skills required Familiarity with Innovative's III Millennium system, and foreign language skills highly preferred. Desirable skills include web and database design and familiarity with XML.
