Reference/Instruction Librarian

The K-State at Salina Library is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Reference/Instruction Librarian. This position administers and provides proactive leadership in the reference, instruction, and collection development operations of the library.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with faculty in the collection development of the K-State at Salina Library.
  • Creates and reviews collection development policies, evaluates library collections, purchases new materials, and makes recommendations for weeding outdated materials.
  • Provides general and in-depth reference services to the students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in person and in the virtual environment.
  • Collaborates with college administrators and faculty in the development and delivery of the library instruction and information literacy programs.
  • Designs and presents library instruction sessions to the students, faculty, and staff of K-State at Salina.
  • Develops and maintains the library’s online instruction tutorials and modules.
  • Monitors and develops the Internet presence of the K-State at Salina Library.


Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program or equivalent. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including written, oral, and public presentation abilities. Flexibility and skills to work independently and as a team with diverse faculty, students, and staff in a rapidly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or experience in reference and instruction in an academic library environment. Strong knowledge of print and electronic information sources. Demonstrated commitment to bibliographic instruction and information literacy. Familiarity with online instructional tools and methods. Knowledge and experience in web page development and maintenance. Experience in collection development and the use of technology in the provision of reference services. Ability and desire to perform a wide variety of academic library tasks. One year of experience in a library setting.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position. Salary is dependent on qualifications. Some evening and weekends are required.
