Information Services and Instruction Librarian

The University of Virginia (http://www.lib.virginia.edu) seeks an innovative and media-focused professional for the position of Information Services and Instruction Librarian in Clemons Library, which houses the Robertson Media Center and is primarily used by undergraduates and scholars using motion media. This position will direct the information and access services offered for online, media, and print collections and equipment. Additionally, this position will oversee an innovative library instruction program for first-year students in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Clemons Library, the Information Services and Instruction Librarian will:

  1. develop information service models that compliment the library’s focus on media and undergraduates, employing technology and media tools when appropriate to answer questions related to collections, technology, software, and spaces
  2. coordinate innovative instructional programs for first-year students in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, and teach a significant number of them
  3. oversee access services of print and media materials and equipment, including the supervision of circulation managers and evening and overnight staff
  4. effectively assess and communicate customer needs to build user-centered services—traditional and digital
  5. contribute to the evaluation and planning of services for Clemons Library
  6. deliver information and research services in a team environment
  7. actively pursue new developments in technology that support undergraduate research and the use of media

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree preferred in library or information science, instructional technology, education, or media studies
  2. Excellent oral, digital, and written communication and presentation skills
  3. Demonstrated experience with information or instructional technology; teaching or training experience, especially with young adults
  4. Familiarity with web and media technologies; enthusiasm and aptitude for learning web and media skills required
  5. Strong customer service orientation
  6. Experience with library access and information services, preferred.
  7. Supervisory experience, especially for staff working nights and weekends, preferred
  8. Willingness to regularly work some non-traditional hours (evenings or Sundays), preferred
  9. Commitment to diversity and ability to work with diverse groups of people
  10. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development

Salary & Benefits:

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Salary competitive, depending on qualifications. This position has general faculty status with excellent benefits, including 22 days of vacation and TIAA/CREF and other retirement plans.
