Informatics and Engineering Technology Librarian

The Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library (http://www.ulib.iupui.edu) seeks a creative, energetic, and service oriented individual to serve as the Informatics and Engineering Technology Librarian at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Reporting to the Team Leader for the Science, Engineering & Technology, Informatics, and Nursing Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for user education, collection development, and reference services for the School of Informatics and assigned Engineering Technology departments within the School of Engineering and Technology (http://informatics.iupui.edu, http://www.engr.iupui.edu/). Primarily, this will involve developing and maintaining strong relationships with the assigned disciplines; designing and presenting instructional sessions, based on the library’s information literacy competencies; developing the library’s collection of informatics materials; and providing research assistance to students, faculty, and staff. This individual will also staff the reference and research help desks several hours a week and serve on the University Library marketing committee.

IUPUI is an urban research and academic health science university with 20 schools and academic units. JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the overall management and collection development of the Price Library of Judaica. Responsible for selection of library materials, reference service, research consultations, and bibliographic instruction in support of the Jewish Studies program. Promotes a public awareness of the Price Library of Judaica’s mission and resources and determines needs and priorities to enhance appropriate library support. Collaborates with librarians and the academic faculty to establish collection management policies. Participates in defining public service, technical service, and collection management goals, objectives, strategies, performance criteria, and materials budgets. Assigns, trains, monitors, and evaluates staff assigned to the Price Library of Judaica. Participates in the Library’s publications, fund raising, and bibliographical control programs. The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and, consequently, the head of the Price Library of Judaica may be asked to serve on various departmental and library-wide committees and teams. The incumbent will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional association activities, to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the bibliographer for Jewish Studies, maintains and integrates the following responsibilities:
· Maintains contact with the faculty and students utilizing the Price Library of Judaica to ensure that the collections and services provided by the Library support needs. Informs this clientele of relevant library issues.
· Develops collection management policy and approval plans for the Price Library of Judaica. Stays informed of relevant Jewish Studies resources available in other libraries and collections.
· Reviews notification slips, trade and national bibliographies, advertisements, catalogues, and similar sources so as to initiate current and retrospective acquisition orders in all formats enhancing the Judaica collections in support of the academic program. Selects appropriate materials received by gift; reviews approval plan profiles and receipts for Judaica, and advises the Acquisitions and Licensing Dept. on sources of supply.
· Works with the library Gifts and Exchange programs to solicit and review gift collections and to establish exchange programs for Jewish Studies.
· Establishes cataloging and preservation priorities for Judaica materials. Makes storage, transfer, and deselection decisions for Judaica materials.
· Participates in the reformatting and digitization programs to ensure conversion of important items in jeopardy.
· Assists the Cataloging and Metadata Dept. in the copy cataloging of Hebraica and selection of materials for outsourcing of cataloging services.
· Provides consultative services to the faculty and advanced graduate students in Jewish Studies, usually by referral from public service areas or by specific arrangement with the academic program area faculty.
· Develops and maintains a professional relationship with other Judaica bibliographers, providing leadership at the national level in various organizations.
· Participates in the Special and Area Studies Collections departmental strategic planning process.
· Prepares collection assessment studies and defines resource needs.
· Participates in the Library’s development program.
· Participates in the Library’s exhibition program.
· Participates in the Library’s research and publication program.
· Serves on Library and departmental consultative bodies as appropriate.
· Pursues professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional association activities, to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:· Thorough knowledge of one Jewish language and a working knowledge of one additional Jewish language· Strong familiarity with Jewish history and culture· An ALA accredited MLS degree (or foreign equivalency) or graduate degree in the bibliographic subject area or related field· A minimum of three (3) years experience in an academic or research library, with experience in managing and enhancing library collections, including those supporting Jewish Studies or other relevant and equivalent professional experience· Effective oral and written communication skills in English· Familiarity with information and digital-based technologies and automated library systems· Strong potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion.

Preferred:
· Earned graduate degree in a relevant subject field with a thorough knowledge of the research literature of Jewish Studies
· A demonstrated record of bibliographic instruction, scholarship, public outreach, and development
· Working knowledge of two modern European languages
· Working knowledge of a Semitic language other than Hebrew
· Experience as a catalog librarian in an automated environment
· Experience in an academic library that awards tenure to librarians

Cultural Diversity Officer

The Staff Development and Cultural Diversity Officer will work under the general supervision of the Library’s Chief Operating Officer and will be expected to carry out a wide range of projects and activities supporting the Library’s diversity initiatives and the staff development needs of the University Library staff. As a participant in the Library’s staff planning, review, and decision-making process, the Staff Development and Cultural Diversity Officer will be responsible for coordinating, developing and promoting initiatives and programs that insure a professional, inclusive and pluralistic work environment. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with the Library’s librarian and professional recruitment program and coordinating minority outreach initiatives.

Responsibilities:
Administer the Library staff development program by planning, scheduling, promoting, and evaluating staff development, continuing education, and orientation activities for the University Library staff.
· Conduct formal assessment and consult with Library administrators and staff to determine staff development needs in order to develop innovative programs.

· Develop effective mechanisms for evaluating Library diversity initiatives.
· Conduct research on diversity related topics including planning, design, and coordination of various studies and special projects. Write reports, communiqués and compile and analyze statistical data.
· Facilitate communication and perform liaison functions between Library administration and Library unit activities, including the Library Diversity Committee, related to cultural diversity.
· Represent the Library at appropriate meetings and professional activities and work with various University officers and constituents in the area of cultural diversity.
· Establish outreach mechanisms for diversifying applicant pools for all Library positions.

Assist with the Library’s Librarian recruitment program and other minority outreach activities:
· Lead the minority outreach initiatives and assist the LHR staff responsible for coordinating Librarian recruitment activities.

Qualifications:
Required: Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library program or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience; prior experience working in an academic environment; knowledge of trends and issues related to staff development and training in academic research libraries; knowledge of trends and issues related to organizational culture and cultural diversity; substantial experience in working effectively with a large diverse staff; ability to provide leadership and manage programs and initiatives; outstanding communication skills; and ability to work independently within a variety of assignments.

Lead Copyright Officer

Libraries are at the center of a vitally important public debate over the extent to which the promise of information technology will be realized. Decisions over the next several years will determine whether people can find and make use of scholarly and cultural works as well as whether we can preserve these works for future generations. The University and the University Library are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and service-oriented individual for the position of Lead Copyright Officer. Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate will provide guidance, policy development, and advocacy on copyright issues to the University and Library communities. This includes providing guidance on the copyright aspects of the Library’s scholarly communications and digital collections initiatives, on copyright use in classroom teaching and technology, online courses, distance education, and electronic course reserves, and providing regular educational workshops on such issues. Responsibilities:
The Copyright Officer will be the Library’s expert on matters of copyright and scholarly communication and will advise library leadership on national and international copyright matters with the goal of enabling the Library to provide the fullest possible access to its collections. The Copyright Officer will also serve as an important University resource on fair use and other copyright issues by working closely with the Office of the General Counsel on copyright issues, educating faculty, staff, and students about copyright (through workshops, websites, consultations, etc.), and helping members of the campus community to understand and apply both fair use and other principles of copyright, as well as the process to obtain permission to use others’ works, when necessary.
The Copyright Office will supervise staff, including one .5 FTE Associate Library Copyright Officer and will work closely with that position in developing services and programs for the UM community.

Head, Emerging Technologies and Services

Department Description

The Emerging Technologies and Services Department supports the technology needs of the Libraries’ users and staff. ETS provides support for the Libraries’ UNIX, Linux, and Windows servers.

Position Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Libraries’ Gray Family Chair for Innovative Library Services, the Head of Emerging Technologies and Services has responsibility for researching and monitoring new trends in information technology and when appropriate recommending their incorporation into the Libraries’ services. As a member of the Libraries’ management team, the position advances the Libraries through the strategic planning, development, implementation and maintenance of digital library tools and services. The position ensures that the Libraries’ technology infrastructure supports the needs of the Libraries’ users and staff.

Dean of Library

The Jane Bancroft Cook Library in Sarasota, serving New College of Florida (NCF) and the Sarasota-Manatee campus of the University of South Florida (USF S-M) seeks a Dean of the Library. NCF, the Honors College of the Florida state university system is a small (800 students), residential, highly selective, highly ranked liberal arts college, known for its focus on independent undergraduate research in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. USF S-M offers upper division undergraduate and graduate programs in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Nursing, and in the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. The campuses of the two schools are about a mile apart along Sarasota bay. Jane Bancroft Cook Library is on the bayfront campus of NCF, in a 75,000 sq. ft. building. It has holdings of 280,000 volumes and has access to the electronic collections and subscriptions of the Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA) and the University of South Florida main campus. The library has a full-time and part-time staff of 22 and an annual operating budget of approximately $1.5 million. The library also operates a small information commons on the campus of USF S-M.

The Dean of the Library will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of NCF and will coordinate with the Dean of Libraries of USF in Tampa, particularly on matters relating to service to faculty and students at USF S-M. The successful candidate will be responsible for all facets of the operation of the Library, both ongoing operations (including Library staff, budgets, patron services, space, collections, digital resources, information technology, relationships with cooperating libraries within the State University System), and future operations (strategic planning, space and renovation planning, enhancement of technological library services , implementation of a Smart Library grant to catalog and deliver image, sound and similar digital files, and otherwise position the library to respond to needs and opportunities of the next decades). S/he will also participate with the New College Library Association, a philanthropic support organization, in fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Library. Compensation will be competitive.

The Dean of the Library must have the ability to develop and to articulate a forward-looking vision for academic libraries in the 21st century. S/he must have a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program (with an additional advanced degree preferred) and a record of scholarly achievement and professional engagement commensurate with the level of the position. Candidates should have had successful administrative and financial management experience in an academic library, preferably for at least five years, a thorough understanding of the use of technology in a library setting, a service orientation, a collegial leadership style, and an understanding of and respect for diversity in the library and the institutions it serves. Excellent communication skills are required for this important position. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate an organizational climate based upon respect, service, open communication, and cooperation, and will develop and execute a strategic plan to support the missions and visions of NCF and USF S-M and that of the Library. Rollins College is looking for a service-oriented Librarian enthusiastic about leading a department responsible for the ongoing development and deployment of digital resources, services, and systems provided by the Olin Library and excited about developing digital services and systems for the liberal arts college library of the 21st century. Work closely with Public Services, Technical Services, and Special Collections & Archives to implement and develop digital services, systems and resources. Maintain awareness of trends in ILS and other library systems and advise librarians on library technology choices. Maintain a close working relationship with appropriate Information Technology personnel. Assess needs and coordinate library technology training for all library personnel. Oversee interlibrary loan and collection development operations of the Olin Library and develop ways to integrate data generated by both operations into the planning and assessment of library operations. Oversee the maintenance all usage, licensing, and budgetary data concerning library operations and effectively incorporate this data into library management, planning, and liaison.

The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for a reference librarian position. The Norris Medical Library is an academic research library serving the Schools and Departments of Medicine, Pharmacy, Occupational and Physical Therapy. RESPONSIBILITIES
