Outreach Librarian

Full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor position with nine-month contract and highly competitive salary (with possible summer employment) available August 2008. Provide leadership in marketing and promotion of library initiatives, programs, activities, resources, and services, and in Library Department decisions regarding outreach issues. Millersville University is one of 14 institutions of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The Library employs 12 faculty and 11 support staff. Library faculty are full members of the university faculty with all of the rights and responsibilities of other faculty members including eligibility for promotion and sabbatical leaves. Library faculty members are expected to engage in scholarship and professional development, service to the institution, and institutional governance. To be granted tenure the incumbent must be enrolled in and have made significant progress toward a second graduate degree (at a minimum a master’s degree program, with a doctoral program preferred).

Required: American Library Association accredited master’s degree. Demonstrated experience with: outreach, marketing and/or public relations; assessing outreach and marketing activities; collaborative, collegial, project oriented teams; electronic information resources, technologies, and services. Demonstrated commitment to: current trends and issues involving outreach in academic libraries; providing leadership for outreach activities; an outward focus, including the ability to listen to and engage with relevant constituencies in the broader community. Evidence of: ability to communicate with ease in multiple settings; aptitude in creative design, including instructional design, web design or graphic design; excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills; and a strong service orientation. A successful campus interview and demonstration is required.

Preferred: Second master’s degree or doctorate in relevant field. Leadership experience on collaborative, collegial, and project orientated teams. Professional experience in an academic library conducting outreach and marketing activities. Experience providing reference service and/or library instruction.
