E-Learning Librarian Doe/Moffitt Libraries Hiring Range: Associate Librarian I - VI$47,868-$62,556 per annum, based upon qualifications


The University of California, Berkeley seeks an energetic and creative user services librarian to provide leadership in the area of online instructional design in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries and to coordinate, facilitate, and develop online instructional design projects that promote the effective use of information resources and research strategies for a variety of courses, programs, and audiences. The E-Learning Librarian collaborates with library staff, campus staff, and faculty on the creation and use of online instructional materials, methods and services, and contributes to instruction and reference services.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Head of Instructional Services, the successful candidate will coordinate and facilitate online library-related instruction for Berkeley’s diverse student population through a variety of media. In collaboration with library staff, faculty, and other campus partners, the incumbent will design, develop, promote, and assess the effectiveness of curricular materials, tutorials and other digital learning objects for an array of disciplines. Providing technology training to colleagues may be required of this position.

As the liaison to campus’s Educational Technology Services, the incumbent will be an active participant in campus discussions related to educational technologies, information literacy, and services to undergraduates, as well as integrating those services into the campus learning management system. The E-Learning Librarian will be expected to provide leadership vision as the Library investigates and experiments with emerging technologies that could strengthen online instructional efforts in support of the curriculum and academic programs.

The E-Learning Librarian will participate in the department’s instruction program by presenting course-related instruction and drop-in workshops and will provide up to 10 hours per week of reference services in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, with some evening and weekend shifts.

Professional contributions beyond the primary job, such as publications, leadership in University and professional organizations, and other research and creative activity, are required for advancement within the Librarian series. Candidates must show evidence of or potential for such contributions.

Qualifications
Required:
- MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree.
- Experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment, preferably to undergraduate students.
- Familiarity with the concepts and goals of information literacy.
- Knowledge of instructional design principles in an online environment.
- Knowledge of learning technologies and their application to instruction in a university environment.
- Experience using web development applications such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Camtasia and/or Captivate and scripting languages such as JavaScript.
- Experience creating instructional and informational materials such as online tutorials, surveys, and guides.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects.
- Evidence of both professional initiative and flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of faculty, students, and staff.

Preferred:
- Familiarity with web accessibility issues and usability testing required to meet ADA accessibility standards.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Sakai, Blackboard, or WebCT.
- Experience creating interactive online experiences.
- Experience or significant coursework in providing reference service, including a broad knowledge of both print and online information sources preferably related to humanities and social sciences in an academic library.
- Experience consulting with instructors and other academic support staff related to course and assignment design.
