Coordinator of College Liaisons

POSITION: This position reports to the Assistant Dean and is responsible for coordinating the College Liaisons unit and overseeing the library faculty and staff who are the primary liaisons between the Libraries and the University colleges and departments. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing effective user- and college-centered research assistance, instruction, and outreach services for faculty and students. This position also works closely with other units in the library to provide integrated services to the academic community. The librarians in the College Liaison unit perform collection development, provide in-depth research assistance, offer instruction, and are responsible for making their departments/colleges aware of library services.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The coordinator is responsible for the following:

  • Managing the unit including the supervision and leadership of 12 FTE faculty and 1-2 FTE state classified
  • Ongoing assessment and evaluation of services in the unit
  • Working with the unit’s liaisons to promote and assess library instruction and support the Libraries’ campus-wide information literacy initiative
  • Working with the University’s/Library’s digital repositories to promote their uses to the University community
  • Promoting collaborative efforts with colleges and departments, and marketing library services
  • Working collaboratively with Collections and Contracts Services, participating in selection, assessment, and evaluation of library collection resources
  • Assuring coverage of subject assignments by the College Liaisons and may, as needed, be responsible for a subject discipline
  • Participating in library assessment activities related to user services
  • Providing reference and research assistance in coordination with the Information Desk and other units
  • Working with campus faculty and departments to identify opportunities for innovative library partnerships and outreach
  • Promoting campus awareness of scholarly communication issues

The coordinator serves as a member of the Libraries Planning Group with responsibility for both influencing and promoting the Libraries strategic plan(s) and its implementation. A coordinator is expected to play the dual role of advocate for the service area and for the Library goals and objectives. This role includes fostering active, open communication among the administration, division, and unit, and encouraging collaboration beyond the service area.

Qualifications: Required: Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited degree program. Minimum of five years post-graduate experience in user services. The candidate must demonstrate: successful supervisory experience in an academic or research library; an awareness of major trends in providing services to colleges and departments with the ability to initiate, plan, and implement new and innovative outreach initiatives; leadership abilities and effective interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; one or more years experience in providing reference; instructional experience in a variety of settings; the ability to work with internal and external departments in a collaborative setting; knowledge of, and relevant ability with, culturally diverse communities among potential target and constituent populations for diversity; ability to deal with change effectively and positively; fluency in current scholarly communication issues; success in integrating emerging technologies into instructional and/or research services; and successful outreach initiatives. Ability to meet requirements for tenure and promotion, with a demonstrated commitment to the profession.
Preferred: Progressively responsible supervisory experience, including professional librarians, in an academic or research library; experience in collection development/management in a subject discipline. Experience with course management software such as WebCT; experience with assessment methods; knowledge of emerging technologies such as podcasting and web tutorials and softwares.

RANK AND SALARY: Faculty status and responsibilities. 12-month, tenure-track appointment with contract reviewed annually until tenure is granted. Rank is dependent upon qualifications. Insurance benefits are available. Faculty may select from several options for medical, life, dental, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement plans. Full-time faculty earn 24 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually. Optional deferred compensation. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
