- Integrate industry best practices into MAM Library.

- Enhance MAM performance by identifying new products / solutions that enhance / streamline functionality.

- Work with managers to create effective workflows.
- Provide archival guidance to production personnel.
- Ensure training of library personnel in all aspects of MAM protocol.

Experience with Cinegy or other automated digital playout system as well as with program licensing and acquisition software is essential. Individual must be highly detail oriented, and be able to work effectively with all levels of management. Strong computer and database skills are necessary. Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news broadcasting environment. Reference & Instruction Librarian (2 positions)

McIntyre Library has two tenure-track Reference and Instruction Librarian openings.

We seek service-oriented, self-motivated individuals who are enthusiastic about providing library reference and instruction service in a highly-regarded liberal arts public university. Candidates who are adaptable, flexible and creative will be best equipped to work in this dynamic and collegial environment. Serving as subject liaisons in assigned areas, these individuals will provide in-depth research and instructional support, as well as general reference and instruction service. These are 12-month, full-time, probationary tenure track faculty positions reporting to the Assistant Director of Libraries. Minimum salary: $50,110; salary and rank commensurate with education and experience. Anticipated start date in spring/summer 2008.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the mission of the Library by providing reference and instructional services for the UW-Eau Claire community and the general public by:
· Teaching library instruction/information literacy sessions.
· Serving as a liaison to assigned departments by consulting and collaborating with students and faculty to meet their information and instructional needs.
· Collaborating with other library faculty in planning, promoting and assessing information literacy initiatives.

DESCRIPTION:
The Research Librarian/Information Technology Specialist for the Social Sciences serves as liaison librarian and information technology specialist for faculty and students in the social sciences and selected interdisciplinary programs. The successful candidate will collaborate with librarian and faculty technology liaisons, as well as archives professionals, in cross-functional teams to educate, inspire and support academic users of technology and information resources of all types to enhance learning and scholarship in the social sciences. Coordinator of Information Literacy & Library Instruction

The Robert J. Kibbee Library serves a significant educational role in a college community committed to excellence in learning and teaching. The Library seeks a librarian with vision, enthusiasm, initiative, and strong service orientation to provide leadership and direction to its Library Instruction program. Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Coordinator of Information Literacy and Library Instruction is responsible for providing creative leadership and assessment of the library’s information literacy efforts, and will work in collaboration with an excellent group of librarians, faculty and students, in building an exceptional library instructional program at Kingsborough.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Coordinator of Information Literacy and Library Instruction plans, coordinates, and leads the library’s instruction program and its assessment. As a member of the Reader Service team, the Coordinator of Information Literacy and Library Instruction also serves as a reference librarian with desk coverage duties and participates in collection development in one or more subject areas. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for the library’s information literacy role on campus and will be capable of investigating and implementing new ideas and innovations in instruction and information literacy. Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and appointee must demonstrate and maintain a record of excellence in librarianship, scholarly achievement and service for reappointment, tenure, and promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA accredited MLS plus a second masters degree required. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to formulate ideas clearly in both written and spoken form. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and students in interpreting and advancing the work of the library in support of learning and teaching and college level reference, teaching and/or library instruction experience are essential, as is knowledge of electronic information resources. Professional library experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library and experience in developing, evaluating and managing effective library instruction programs is preferred.

Associate Director Educational & Research Services

The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library seeks an innovative, energetic and service-oriented individual to provide outstanding leadership for the library’s Division of Educational & Research Services. The Norris Medical Library is an academic research library serving the Schools and Departments of Medicine, Pharmacy, Occupational Science and Biokinesiology/Physical Therapy. Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school and a minimum of five years experience in an academic health sciences library. Strong oral and written skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Intellectually curious and comfortable with change.

Salary/Status: Beginning salary between $58,000 - $80,000 depending on experience. This position is in a continuing-appointment track, the USC librarian’s equivalent to tenure.

The Library uses the Ex Libris Voyager system and is a member of GALILEO, a statewide library consortium providing access to electronic resources and databases. The library has implemented technologies such as ILLiad, SFX, Docutek ERes, and is in the process of implementing MetaLib. The University Library is actively engaged in a number of digital initiatives, including digitizing selected materials from Special Collections and integrating library e-resources into campus learning management systems. Research Librarian for Education and Outreach

The University of California Irvine Libraries seeks a creative and energetic Research Librarian for Education and Outreach to play an integral role in developing and promoting the Libraries’ information literacy program. The Research Librarian for Education and Outreach will be a leader in providing instruction to UCI students and in providing outreach to campus programs and departments in support of library partnerships. The incumbent will specialize in instruction and may also have a collection development or a general reference component. The specific collection development and/or reference assignment is open and will be influenced by the needs of the Reference or Collection Development Departments and the profile of the most qualified applicant.

The successful candidate for this position will be based in the Department of Education and Outreach, a highly collaborative department that works across library departments, divisions, and functions to support the Libraries’ instruction program. The position will report directly to the Head of Education and Outreach and may have a secondary reporting relationship to the Head of the Collection Development Department or the Head of the Langson or Science Reference Department.

Responsibilities

The Research Librarian for Education and Outreach is involved in the development, planning, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of the Libraries’ information literacy programs. The position teaches information literacy skills to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff through active participation in the Libraries’ general instruction program which includes the required undergraduate writing courses. The Research Librarian for Education and Outreach actively pursues and expands outreach partnerships with campus programs to take advantage of opportunities to integrate library resources, information literacy instruction, and information technology into academic curricula and special programs. In consultation with the Head of Education and Outreach, the incumbent develops collaborative programs and library initiatives with the Division of Undergraduate Education and the Division of Student Affairs, including the Student-Parent Orientation Program, the Campus-wide Honors Program, and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. The incumbent identifies and uses instructional technology to develop new educational materials that teach research skills, helps train and supervise the Writing and Library Research Peer Tutors, and assists in the provision of professional development activities that support the improvement of library staff members’ teaching abilities.

In the area of collection development, the Research Librarian for Education and Outreach may be responsible for the selection, assessment, and management of collections and resources in at least one assigned academic discipline and serve as liaison to the faculty and students in that discipline.

In the area of reference, the Research Librarian for Education and Outreach may provide reference assistance at one of the Libraries’ reference desks or through the Libraries’ online reference service.

The Research Librarian for Education and Outreach will be expected to participate in a variety of library committees, task forces, and teams.

The Education and Outreach Department

The Department of Education and Outreach is responsible for leading an active, comprehensive instruction program which meets the needs of a growing campus and is responsive to the constantly changing environment of scholarly communication. The Department provides leadership for the Libraries’ ambitious outreach and instruction programs, emphasizing research skills, information literacy, information technologies, and life-long learning. The Department of Education and Outreach has a lead role in the coordination, integration, and assessment of all library instruction activities, including subject-based, graduate, and professional school instruction. The Department provides professional development opportunities designed to improve the teaching skills of library staff members. The Department is responsible for identifying and developing partnerships with all campus units and also provides leadership in the area of outreach to the K-14 community. The Department operates in a collaborative, team-based environment and works closely with members of the Libraries’ Reference and Collection Development Departments in order to fulfill its mission. There are 3 librarians (including the Department Head) and two library assistants in the department.

The Libraries

The UCI Libraries are committed to innovation and excellence and are in a major period of growth and change. The Libraries consist of the Langson Library, the Science Library, the Library Gateway Study Center, and the Grunigen Medical Library. Pictorial Stabilization Project Archivist

The Bancroft Library of the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Project Archivist to process photographic negative collections, plan and execute a major collection move into a new cold storage facility, and participate in long term preservation reformatting planning for photographic collections. This is a temporary, three-year appointment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in arrangement and description of archival materials, knowledge of and experience with film-based archival photograph collections, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong project management skills, and have demonstrated proficiency at meeting goals and deadlines.

Responsibilities

The Project Archivist will be responsible for arranging and describing 20th century photographic collections as part of The Bancroft Library’s Pictorial Stabilization Project. With an emphasis upon film-based negatives and transparencies, primary efforts will be directed to preservation housing, planning efficient space use in a new 1200 square foot cold storage facility, and formulating and executing procedures for collection transfer into this facility. The Project Archivist will assist in further developing and applying systematic collections appraisal criteria to prioritize future preservation reformatting efforts.Planning efforts will encompass all of the Library’s film negative holdings, while archival arrangement and description efforts will focus on a few large collections, including the photographic archives of Thérèse Bonney (1897-1978) and the San Francisco Bay Area photographs of Mose Cohen (1884-1975). In addition to arrangement and preservation housing, these selected collections will be described to the series or file level in archival finding aids created by the Project Archivist.

The Project Archivist will work under the general supervision of the Principal Archivist for Pictorial Collections, and will supervise student library employees and/or interns. The Project Archivist will work in consultation with the Curator for Pictorial Collections in analysis of the collections for prioritization. The Project Archivist will also work with the Digital Collections Unit to complete EAD encoding of resultant finding aids and their delivery to the Online Archive of California.
Qualifications
Required:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent degree with a specialization in archival studies.
- Demonstrated understanding of archival collections and principles of arrangement and description.
- Knowledge of preservation principles in relation to photographic collections.- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with Encoded Archival Description.
- Familiarity with MARC data elements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Access.

Preferred:
- Previous archival project management experience.
- Undergraduate degree in history (especially US or Western US history).
- Knowledge of photography.
- Experience with photographic negative archives.

The Fashion Institute of Technology seeks an enthusiastic and innovative librarian to lead the Periodicals Department and Interior Design Resource Center (IDRC) of the Gladys Marcus Library. Dean of the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies

Its full-time faculty of 56 and 73 part-time faculty teach 1,270 undergraduate majors, 350 students in master’s programs, and 110 doctoral students. With courses in high demand at Rutgers among first- and second-year students, enrollment in undergraduate courses regularly exceeds 10,000 annually. The school’s work is carried out in part in several institutes and centers, which generally share an interdisciplinary focus. The dean will be chief academic officer of the school, bringing a vision for its future. He or she will be expected to pursue a standard of excellence for teaching and scholarship that will inspire and lead faculty, students, and staff in their academic pursuits. The dean will have responsibility for expanding, strengthening, and managing the resources of the school—the faculty and the students, the finances, and the facilities. The dean will ensure the school’s programs and research agendas grow and deepen. He or she will establish links among disciplines within the school, with other schools and colleges in the university, and with external colleagues and constituents, extending the reach of the school. The dean will be the principal spokesperson for the school, both internally and externally, providing intellectual leadership and a voice for the quickly evolving ideas in which the school is engaged. He or she will also have principal responsibility for raising external funds for the school.

The dean will report to the executive vice president for academic affairs and will be a key member of the university’s leadership team. He or she will bring a strong commitment to the recruitment and retention of a diverse group of faculty and students and to student placement. The successful candidate will be expected to build and shape the school’s strengths and to foster change, when necessary, in order to enhance the quality, reputation and visibility of Rutgers’ educational and research programs.

RESEARCH LIBRARIAN FOR PERFORMING ARTS (Music, Dance, and Drama)

Duties and Responsibilities

In the area of collection development, the Research Librarian for Performing Arts will be responsible for the selection, assessment, and management of collections and resources in music, dance, and drama. The incumbent will serve as liaison to the faculty and students in these subject areas to insure that their information needs are being met as well as to promote the Libraries’ services and resources. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring budgets and making collections decisions that support the teaching and research needs on campus. The incumbent will provide subject-based instruction and develop and update subject web pages in support of research in music, dance, and drama. The incumbent will also work collaboratively with the Libraries’ Multimedia Resources Center to identify and provide the multimedia resources and services that support the research and teaching needs of the performing arts students and faculty.

In the area of reference, the Research Librarian for Performing Arts will provide specialized and general reference service at the Langson Library Reference Desk, supporting information needs in the arts and humanities as well as business, social sciences, and education. The incumbent will provide approximately ten hours of reference service weekly, including responding to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries. The incumbent will also provide specialized research consultations in music, dance, and drama and maintain sufficient knowledge to provide effective general reference assistance. Occasional weekend and evening shifts are required.


In the area of instruction, the Research Librarian for Performing Arts will provide and promote specialized instruction services to students and faculty in music, dance, and drama. The incumbent also participates in the Libraries’ information literacy initiatives and general education programs to assist campus and community users in improving their critical thinking, information-seeking, and research skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience.
  • Educational background in music, dance, or drama or experience providing reference, instruction and/or collection development in the performing arts.

Collection Development Department

The Collection Development Department is responsible for the library wide development and management of general collections in the Langson Library, Science Library, and Grunigen Medical Library under the administration and coordination of the Head of Collection Development. This department takes the lead role in developing and planning the overarching and ongoing collections policies, procedures, and projects that ensure that the scholarly resources available meet the campus teaching, research, and patient care needs.

The department consists of the Department Head and 5+ Research Librarians, who are responsible for supporting the collection, liaison, and service needs of UCI academic programs. In addition, there are 15+ other Research Librarians located in departments throughout the Libraries, who are responsible for both collections and services in their specialized disciplines. Prinicipal Serials Cataloger

The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks an energetic and enthusiastic librarian for the position of Principal Serials Cataloger to provide leadership and expertise in the cataloging of serial publications. The incumbent will bring vision and creativity to building effective organization of, and public access to, the Libraries’ serials. The position requires substantial knowledge of serials in all formats including print and electronic, and the ability to research, assess, and implement technology to promote successful serials management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of the Cataloging Department, the Principal Serials Cataloger coordinates and participates in the bibliographic control of serials and provides leadership within the Cataloging Department and throughout the Libraries for the formulation of policies and procedures related to public access to serial publications. Provides general oversight for the U.S.Federal Documents acquisitions, processing and cataloging. Performs original and complex copy cataloging for all types of serial publications in a variety of formats, languages and subjects, using MARC 21, AACR2, and the Library of Congress classification system and subject headings. Provides management, supervision, and evaluation of 4.0 FTE staff. Provides staff training and serves as a resource person regarding serials cataloging within the Cataloging Department and throughout the Libraries. Participates in University of California (UC) system-wide initiatives and projects related to serials through the California Digital Library and the UC Shared Cataloging Program. Works collaboratively with other Cataloging Department section leaders and participates in departmental management as a member of the Cataloging Policy Committee. Participates in library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to serials and documents cataloging. Monitors trends and maintains currency in emerging issues in bibliographic control of serials and documents.

Qualifications

The Cataloging Department

The Cataloging Department is responsible for cataloging approximately 40,000 items annually including monographs, serials, AV, music, computer files, electronic resources, and government publications for all subjects and languages. The Department participates in CONSER, NACO, and OCLC’s Enhance Program. Including the Department Head, the staff includes 7 librarians, 23 library assistants and a varying number of student assistants. The Department consists of five sections: Monograph Cataloging, Serials Cataloging, Catalog Maintenance, East Asian Cataloging and Electronic Resources. The Department uses OCLC for cataloging and the Innovative Interfaces Inc. integrated library system.
