Library Director, Evanston (IL) Public Library

Join a dynamic team and lead the City of Evanston’s public library. The City of Evanston is seeking a Library Director with leadership talent and the ability to develop a strong library team while also contributing as a participative team player on the City Manager’s team. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and implement a vision and strategic plan for the library and participate in the City of Evanston’s strategic plan’s vision of making “Evanston the most livable city in America.” At the same time, the Director will be manage an annual budget of $4.8 million and develop new funding avenues for additional revenues. The successful candidate will be able to develop and maintain strong community and institutional partnerships contributing to the development of the library’s and the community’s services and programs, implement digital library services, and design and implement staff leadership/development programs. Specific qualifications include a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible public library experience; five years of executive level administrative experience preferably as a Director in a municipal library; and an ALA-accredited Master’s in Library Science.

The hiring range is $100, 000-$125,000.

Evanston, the home of Northwestern University, is located in north suburban Chicago approximately twenty minutes from the downtown loop. The Evanston Public Library has a staff of 58 FTE serves a community of 75,500 with a Main Library and two branches. The Library is a member of the renowned North Suburban Library System. The Director reports to the Evanston City Manager and the nine-member appointed Library Board of Trustees.
